Y CombinatorDarsana Capital PartnersBoom Supersonic is the trade name of Boom Technology, Inc., an American aerospace company founded in Denver, Colorado in 2014. It is developing Overture, a proposed supersonic airliner designed to fly at Mach 1.7, roughly twice the speed of today's subsonic jets, carrying 60 to 80 passengers as far as 4,250 nautical miles. Boom's XB-1 demonstrator broke the sound barrier on January 28, 2025, becoming the first independently developed aircraft to do so, and the company also builds Symphony, a turbofan engine designed specifically for supersonic flight.
More recently Boom has pivoted part of its business toward Superpower, a natural gas turbine derived from its supersonic engine technology that is used to generate electricity for AI data centers.
