Last Energy is a full-service developer of micro modular pressurized water reactor power plants, designed, built, owned and operated by the company itself so customers don't have to develop, finance or operate the asset. Its PWR-20 product combines proven reactor technology with proprietary steel containment, and Last Energy sells the output through long-term, fixed-price power purchase agreements aimed mainly at data centers and other energy-intensive industries needing carbon-free baseload power.
The company grew out of the Energy Impact Center, a research institute Bret Kugelmass founded in 2017 to find the most scalable path to affordable clean energy; after concluding nuclear was the answer, EIC launched Last Energy in 2019. Based in Washington, D.C., with a pilot microreactor planned at Texas A&M and a roughly £300 million project near Bridgend in South Wales, Last Energy aims to power 244,000 homes from that UK site alone.
