Clermont GroupOakNorth Bank lends to scaling UK businesses, typically those turning over between 1 million and 100 million pounds, and pairs that lending with business and personal savings accounts. Entrepreneurs Rishi Khosla and Joel Perlman, who had previously built Copal Amba together, founded the bank in London and secured a full banking licence from the PRA and FCA in March 2015, launching debt financing and savings products that September. In May 2016 OakNorth became the first bank fully hosted on the cloud, working with Amazon Web Services alongside its regulator.
Beyond direct lending, OakNorth licenses a credit-analysis platform to other lenders and has expanded into the United States with a New York team focused on commercial real estate, commercial and industrial lending, and fund finance. Since 2015 it has provided more than 15 billion pounds in funding, which it says has helped create 70,000 jobs and 40,500 homes in the UK.
