M12PsiQuantum is a Palo Alto-based quantum computing company developing utility-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers using silicon photonics, an approach based on leveraging photonic qubits and semiconductor manufacturing. It was co-founded in 2016 by physicists Jeremy O'Brien, Terry Rudolph, Peter Shadbolt and Mark Thompson, who had been professors and researchers at the University of Bristol and Imperial College London.
The company builds its chips through a manufacturing partnership with GlobalFoundries and has secured government partnerships to construct its first utility-scale systems in Queensland, Australia and Chicago, Illinois. In 2025 PsiQuantum raised a $1 billion Series E round and launched Construct, a software platform for fault-tolerant quantum algorithm development.
