DCVCCapella Space is an American satellite manufacturer and operator founded in 2016 by former NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory engineer Payam Banazadeh and William Walter Woods. Headquartered in San Francisco, the company designs, builds and operates a fleet of synthetic-aperture radar satellites, and in 2020 it launched the first American SAR satellite, providing high-resolution, all-weather imagery for government and commercial customers.
Capella's SAR sensors deliver sub-0.25-meter resolution imagery and revisit times under three hours, and the company holds contracts with the National Reconnaissance Office, the U.S. Air Force, the Navy and NASA. In July 2025, Capella was acquired by quantum computing company IonQ in an all-stock transaction.
