Serbia is one of the few non-EU countries we cover with a dedicated statute: the Law on Digital Assets (RS Official Gazette No 153/2020) has applied since June 2021 and covers both halves of the market. It defines digital assets as a digital representation of value that can be bought, sold, exchanged or transferred and used as a means of exchange or for investment, and it separates out virtual currency - a type of digital asset that no central bank or public authority issues or guarantees, that is not necessarily attached to legal tender, and that does not have the legal status of money or a currency. Owning and trading crypto is therefore lawful; what is licensed is the business of serving other people.
A perpetual on COIN tracks price and does not confer ownership of the underlying — the same contract mechanics apply in every jurisdiction; what differs by country is legal status and funding rails.
