What the law actually says

Is Alphabet trading legal in Georgia?

Georgia treats owning and trading crypto as lawful and puts its regulation on the businesses. Since the National Bank of Georgia took the sector under supervision, anyone providing a virtual asset service in the country must be registered with it: exchange between crypto and fiat (explicitly including via kiosks), transfers, custody, portfolio management, running a trading platform, lending and initial coin offerings all count as virtual asset services. The National Bank stated on 7 October 2025 that under the Organic Law on the National Bank of Georgia it is strictly prohibited for anyone not registered as a VASP, and not otherwise an authorised financial sector entity, to provide virtual asset services — and it extended that explicitly to the Free Industrial Zones, which had been used as a workaround.
