Indonesia treats crypto as a tradable financial asset, and it regulates the venue. Supervision of digital financial assets including crypto moved from the commodity-futures regulator Bappebti to the financial services authority OJK: the handover was signed on 10 January 2025, the same date POJK No. 27 of 2024 took effect. Under that regime a Penyelenggara Perdagangan Aset Keuangan Digital is licensed by OJK, and it is forbidden to trade any digital financial asset that is not on the list (Daftar Aset Keuangan Digital) fixed by the exchange — so what a resident can legally trade is a bounded list on a licensed venue.
