Spot crypto is legal to own and trade, and the service side is now entirely a licensing question: MiCA started applying in Croatia on 30 December 2024, the transitional regime ended on 1 July 2026, and from that date only a firm holding a crypto licence may serve Croatian customers. Supervision is split between the two authorities: the HNB handles asset-referenced tokens and e-money tokens, Hanfa handles white papers for everything else, the conduct of crypto service providers and crypto trading.
Two consumer facts follow: the investor compensation fund does not cover crypto-assets at all, and Hanfa says plainly it has no supervisory power over foreign firms. Leveraged retail derivatives are unclear for Croatia; note that MiCA licensing is about crypto-asset services and does not itself authorise CFDs or perpetual futures, which are MiFID II financial instruments under a separate regime.
A perpetual on SP500 tracks price and does not confer ownership of the underlying — the same contract mechanics apply in every jurisdiction; what differs by country is legal status and funding rails.
