Is Plasma trading legal in Tanzania?

Tanzania is a country where three arms of the state point in different directions, and the useful thing is that each is doing something different. The central bank's position is the oldest and the most negative: the Bank of Tanzania's Public Notice on Cryptocurrencies, issued in November 2019 and still the only crypto notice found on the Bank's site, advises the public against trading, marketing and using virtual currency because doing so is "contrary to existing foreign exchange regulations", reiterates that under sections 26 and 27 of the Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006 "the only acceptable and used legal tender in the country is the Tanzanian Shilling", and cautions the public to beware of involvement in virtual currencies "as they are not legally authorized in Tanzania".

Three percent withholding tax on payments made to the owner of a digital asset. The Finance Act, 2024 (Act 6 of 2024) added sections 83B, 83C and 83D to the Income Tax Act; section 83C is headed "Withholding tax on payments to owner of digital asset", and the corresponding rate entry reads "in case of payment referred to under section 83C(1), - three percent".
